Earth Law: Africa

Known as the Cradle of Humankind, the lands and waters of Africa are as diverse ecologically as the peoples are culturally. Numerous legal frameworks are rising across the continent which center African perspectives, traditional knowledge, and ecological ethics. These frameworks promote the integrity of biodiverse ecosystems and often critique colonial legacies in environmental governance. Advocating for the Rights of Nature and the interconnectedness of all life, Earth Law in Africa broadly calls for a decolonized approach to law that prioritizes environmental justice, cultural expression, and resilient sustainability.
