Intelligences of Nature: Animals

The animal kingdom (or kin-dom, if you’d like) presents a stunning assortment of species that demonstrate their own forms of consciousness, sentience, cognition, emotion, and community. This challenges the common belief that humans are the only intelligent and conscious animal species. After all, we are self-appointed Homo sapiens, meaning “wise human” or “knowledgeable human”. Yet a growing number of scientific studies demonstrate that humans are not the only animal species with a unique capacity for intelligence. In fact, you may be surprised by what birds, mammals, invertebrates, fish, and reptiles/amphibians can teach us humans.
