Pantheism: Engaged Projects

The Pantheism and Panentheism Project
This project built upon another project sponsored by The John Templeton Foundation from 2011-2013 on “Exploring Alternative Concepts of God.” It was the first project focusing on work by analytic philosophers on alternative conceptions of the divine to traditional theism. While this project is larger, its scope is more narrow, focusing on pantheism and panentheism and some challenges facing both approaches to thinking about the metaphysics of the divine. The project ran from January 2017 through September 2019 and included workshops by invitation only at the Rutgers Center for Philosophy of Religion and the John Hick Centre for Philosophy of Religion at the University of Birmingham, public lectures at Marist College and the University of Birmingham, and a competition for stipends to support proposals by analytic philosophers and analytic theologians working on problems related to pantheism and panentheism.

Universal Pantheist Society
The Universal Pantheist Society (founded in 1975 by Harold Wood) is the oldest known organization dedicated to modern and ethical Pantheism. The formation of the Universal Pantheist Society was based on the need to communicate an informed, modern Pantheism, and to provide for sharing among Pantheists. The purposes of the Society are: “to unite Pantheists everywhere into a common fellowship, to undertake the conveyance of information about Pantheism to the interested public, to encourage discussion and communication among Pantheists, to provide mutual aid and defense of Pantheists everywhere, to stimulate a revision of social attitudes away from anthropocentrism and toward reverence for the Earth and a vision of the ultimate context for human existence, and to take appropriate action toward the protection and restoration of the Earth.”

Pantheism Community
The Paradise Project
Pantheism.com is an educational site that provides information, news, groups, and connections. Celebrate your views, discuss the nature of Nature, learn about the history and varieties of Pantheism, find or start a local event, and in general, hang out with fellow freethinkers and travelers. Organized by The Paradise Project (est. 2004 by Perry Rod).

World Pantheist Movement (WPM)
Established in 1998 by Paul Harrison; The World Pantheist Movement promotes “scientific pantheism,” a nature-centered and naturalistic alternative to dogmatic supernatural religions. It is a form of spirituality strongly focused on Earth, love and care for Nature, human and animal rights.
