Ecological Worldviews: Nature-based Education

Nature-based Education recognizes the Earth to be a primary source of wisdom for all stages of one’s development. It includes place-based and experiential models of learning, outdoor education, and other modes of creative pedagogy rooted in human connections with the Earth. Nature-based Education imagines alternatives to the conventional model of indoor education, which has origins in factory manufacturing, market competition, and hyper-specialized training. With roots in Indigenous pedagogies, Nature-based Education seeks to cultivate integral human-Earth relations and an ethical responsibility towards local ecosystems. While not comprehensive in scope, this section serves as a primer by introducing you to key sources and schools of thought in Nature-based Education.
