In this chapter, Charles Frankel challenges the meaning, or meanings, of Nature. Frankel examines the meaning(s) across science, humanistic studies, and technology to reveal the values which inform and are informed by these meanings. Frankel then argues that any claim to the Rights of Nature must grapple with the complicated conceptions of Nature.
