Cosmogenesis with Brian Thomas Swimme ~ Episode 12

Sam King speaks with Brian Thomas Swimme about his most recent book, Cosmogenesis: An Unveiling of the Expanding Universe (2022). Swimme’s published work portrays the 14 billion year trajectory of cosmogenesis “as a spellbinding drama, full of suspense, valor, tragedy, and celebration.” His work includes The Universe is a Green Dragon (1984), The Universe Story, written with Thomas Berry (1992), The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos (1996), The Journey of the Universe, written with Mary Evelyn Tucker (2011), and Cosmogenesis (2022). Swimme is the producer of three DVD series: Canticle to the Cosmos (1990), The Earth’s Imagination (1998), and The Powers of the Universe (2004). Swimme teamed with Mary Evelyn Tucker, David Kennard, Patsy Northcutt, and Catherine Butler to produce Journey of the Universe, a Northern California Emmy-winning film released in 2011. Chaos to Cosmos

It is natural for chaos to precede the accomplishment of a goal that is grandiose enough to demand the elevation of the human race to its next level. The cosmic history shows that unprecedented results emerge from extraordinary determination to push through chaos to its culmination. “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it,” goes the taunt. The history that people really need to learn is the 14 billion year one, which encompasses an unmitigated series of momentous success stories—atoms, galaxies, stars, planets, life, and self-awareness. And the hope that this history keeps repeating itself. Each of the universe’s successes came after initial periods of chaos and struggle. Now, for the first time, the road from chaos to success depends not just on nature, but also on human intentions. Here’s the question: Is the human species mature enough to channel its intentions responsibly?
